The CEO of Generali Italia spoke at the Rimini Meeting highlighting the need for clear and pragmatic governance and to identify two guidelines: sustainability and digitalisation.

Sesana (Generali): "We're aiming for the national champions for the second half"

“To guide the reconstruction and recovery in the coming months, very strong guidance and planning will be needed to identify the strategic sectors, of priority importance, in which as a country we must invest. I think there are many good ideas, but beyond the tools that will be put in place, the element of success will be clear governance and a defined execution plan to implement the various development initiatives quickly and effectively, without dispersing resources". Thus intervened, at the 41st edition of the CL Meeting in Rimini, Marco Sesana, Country Manager & CEO of Generali Italia and Global Business Lines.

For the number one of the Lion of Trieste, the two essential guidelines in a vision of development must be sustainability and digitalisation and the Recovery Fund will be a powerful acceleration tool in this direction, without forgetting that, Sesana continued, "the insurance sector is the largest institutional investor and with over 10.200 billion euros of managed assets it is able to support the financing of the recovery". When asked about his vision of services in our country for businesses, Marco Sesana expressed conviction on the importance of cooperation between the business world and the public sector.

“We have learned – added the manager of the Lion – that cooperation is much more worthwhile to widen the room for growth and to face contemporary challenges I also see the need to develop a strategic pact at European level. Here it is fundamental the role that large national companies can play, the so-called national champions, able to move through an institutional and market network". The CEO of Generali Italia then reflected on the role of companies as a "point of reference for people and communities, to restart on a more solid and supportive basis", which is why "it is necessary to act together with your stakeholders - customers, employees , agents, suppliers, institutions and communities – with the aim of generating trust by enhancing everyone's skills and offering concrete and immediate solutions”.

This is in fact the path chosen by Generali which over the years has developed its business starting from people's needs, including with social initiatives in the welfare and third sector, in schools, up to the support given to families, companies, associations, civil protection and local institutions during the Covid emergency, for which only in Italy it has put in place the 110 million euro #TogetherWeGenerateFiducia action plan for the health emergency and recovery. “Sustainability is part of the strategic issues of the coming years that will determine the ability of companies and states to innovate - concludes Sesana -, investments in education and research are therefore very important. I am convinced that improving the quality of our human capital means improving the entire country system”.
