Wealth, Forbes: Ortega (ex Zara) surpasses Gates

Zara surpasses Microsoft. Or rather the former president of the Spanish clothing giant, Amancio Ortega, surpassed Bill Gates in the ranking of the richest men on the planet, periodically updated by Forbes magazine. With assets of 79,5 billion dollars, the Scrooge of the world is therefore now the founder of Inditex, the company set up together with his wife – who died three years ago – Rosalia Mera who owns the Zara brand but also Massimo Dutti, Pull and Bear, Bershka, Oysho, Stradivarius, Uterque, Lefties, Zara Kids and the spin-off Zara Home.

Ortega had already briefly occupied this position in October 2015. Now the head-to-head battle continues between the two billionaires: the ranking is updated in real time and there is currently “only” a billion difference between the two. Ortega's wealth, reports Forbes, is grew by 2,2% (about 2,2 billion dollars) in the last 24 hours alone. This is also thanks to a surge in the shares of Inditex, the parent company of Zara.
