EU Parliament: Commission goes ahead on Eurobonds

The European Parliament says yes to Stability Bonds, and invites the European Commission to continue in this direction. Indeed, the Strasbourg assembly adopted a resolution in which it asks the EU executive to "make rapid progress" with all the tools needed to get out of the crisis, Eurobonds included. As the Verdi-Ale party's economic affairs office explains, "it is clear that focusing exclusively on financial consolidation is a failure, and a broader approach is needed to deal with the crisis".

In this sense, explain the European Greens, "Stability bonds can play a central role in the response to the crisis" that Europe is called to give. “Eurobonds – underlines Philippe Lambert, spokesman for the Economic Affairs office of the European Greens – could be a useful tool to encourage compliance with the growth and stability pacts”. The green book of the EU Commission is considered in Strasbourg "an important milestone", which with today's vote finds full support from the legislative body of the European Union.
