Despite the complexities of the international context, the increase in prices and the difficulties in finding raw materials, as well as the reduction in the purchasing power of consumers due to inflation, grow up the export of the Italian goldsmith sector, with good prospects also for the current year. This is what emerges from joint relationship on the Italian gold sector presented by the Club degli Orafi and Intesa Sanpaolo.
Turnover up by 22%
2022 ended positively with a turnover up 22,1% which reinforces the rebound accrued in 2021 (+55,3%). These results were supported by the sector's ability to compete on international markets, even in an uncertain context, with the jewelry exports which in 2022 exceeded 9 billion euros. A full recovery of pre-Covid levels both in value (+41%) and in quantity (+5%).
Use first market
Among the different markets, the Usa are confirmed with 1,5 billion as primary target market (+12% in 2022), also supported by the strengthening of the dollar and therefore by a favorable exchange rate. Followed by Switzerland (1,3 billion; + 21%) and the United Arab Emirates.
In terms of perspectives, operators' expectations focus on the opportunities for a resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and the recovery of international tourist flows. For larger companies, the first opportunity is instead represented by acquisitions and growth in size (44%).
At the same time, the most important challenges are the problem of sourcing the workforce, followed by the management of raw material costs.
