The Gambero Rosso 2023 restaurant guide for Rome and Lazio: Heinz Beck firmly at the top of the rankings

Stainless and unattainable Heinz Beck continues to dominate with the Pergola of the Hotel Rome Cavalieri the high quality catering of Lazio. The Rome and the Best of Lazio guide by Gambero Rosso presented today places it in top of the standings followed by Il Pagliaccio, La Trota di Rivodutri [RI] and Pascucci at the Porticciolo di Fiumicino [RM]. But the Gambero Guide, now in its thirty-third edition, also photographs one great effervescence of hotel catering of the capital, for which a great national and international tourist renaissance seems to be on the horizon. Between 2021 and 2022, in fact, over 5 large hotel groups chose Roma for companies of great caliber in consideration not only of the historical beauties, but also for its food and wine richness, for its valuable craftsmen and for its great cooks who get involved in the name of good and healthy. For the second consecutive year, the Guide highlights the growth of the regional heritage with the Genius Loci award which highlights the best realities for each province which offer a cuisine based on excellent local products. Other prizes went for the valorisation of the territory. The traditional foreign press association taste group awards are also renewed.

On stage, together with Laura Mantovano, editorial director of Gambero Rosso, and Pina Sozio, curator of the Rome Guide, chefs and restaurateurs awarded by the Guide took turns, starting with the new entries. Between them, Taki Off, now led by chef Andrea Fusco (ex Giuda Ballerino), e Seventh, the panoramic restaurant of the Sofitel Villa Borghese hotel, thanks to the cuisine of Giuseppe D'Alessio. New entry in the guide, this time in the pastry sector, also for D'Antoni, a well-known confectionary establishment in the Collatino district. Success for too Les Etoiles, the Atlante Star hotel's restaurant with a view of St. Peter's which entered the guide with a score of 77 and a fork, as well as for Julia Restaurant which, with its chef Alessandro Borgo, makes its debut in the guide with a very high score: 80 and two forks. Shifting the gaze on the Pontine coast, Follow Le Botti, the restaurant of the Cantina Sant'Andrea winery, entered among the big names in catering with a score of 77 and a fork, while The Vistamare, the restaurant of the Hotel Fogliano, made its debut with a score of 78 and one fork.

Great confirmations the starry ones of AROMA, the gourmet restaurant overlooking the Colosseum which can boast the haute cuisine of Giuseppe Di Iorio, e Crazy water by Gino Pesce, in Ponza. Both confirm the two forks, with scores of 82 and 85 respectively.

However, many others are the novelties of this edition. The restaurant Moma, led by the talented Andrea Pasqualucci, (1 Michelin star), obtained its second fork with a score of 80. The Mirabelle, the restaurant with a view of Rome in the Splendide Royal hotel led by chef Stefano Marzetti, who receives two forks with 86. Level1, the fish restaurant with attached fish market in the Eur district, by chef Mirko Di Mattia, obtained 2 forks with a score of 81. Aventina Meat and Shop for 2023 it passes from the "Gourmet Break" category to the "Grill" category thanks to the careful selection of meats made by the owner and by chef Matteo Militello.

Remains stable at 2 cocottes theHassler Bistro, a refined restaurant headed by chef Marcello Romano and located on the ground floor of the historic Hotel Hassler which, for this edition, also boasts another recognition: the award for best service in the gourmet restaurant Imago. Two cocottes for too The Marquis which, with the talent of the young chef Daniele Roppo, remains stable among the best bistros in the capital, as well as Madeleine, the French-inspired address in the Prati district.

"Being able to enhance and promote everything that moves and revolves around the world of food - declares the Councilor for Agriculture, Forestry, Promotion of the Supply Chain and Food Culture of the Lazio Region Enrica Onorati - is a great challenge but also a strategic bet which, as a Region, we immediately accepted. We boast an enormous heritage in Lazio in terms of biodiversity, typical and traditional products, denominations of origin, which find their maximum expression in the expert hands of our ambassadors of excellence, chefs and restaurateurs, through which a story is transmitted and handed down that speaks on the one hand of our land value and on the other of the commitment and tireless work of our producers”. And Paolo Cuccia, president of Gambero Rosso, underlined the importance at this moment of committing oneself to ensure that an ever wider public can get to know the extraordinary products of the Lazio region and the great masters who skilfully transform them into tasteful creations. A wealth that can contribute to the tourist and economic growth of the capital and of the whole region.”

AWARDS GROUP OF TASTE FOREIGN PRESS ASSOCIATION

SOUTH AMERICAN Carnal Morso Sabroso | Rome

One of the favorite places of South American colleagues: here the perfect combination of savory South American taste and Italian gastronomic knowledge is achieved, thanks to the creativity of chef Roy Caceres. In the Prati district, a place at affordable prices, considering the excellent quality.

RESTAURANT Santa Lucia | Rome

A small oasis among the many places for tourists in the historic centre. Much loved by foreign journalists, the Santa Lucia offers, in addition to Neapolitan-style dishes, a very cheap hot table formula, with hearty and well-prepared dishes. The aperitif is also pleasant, to be sipped in an unexpected corner of greenery in the heart of the city.

TREATMENT Antica Osteria Earthquake Genazzano (RM)

A pleasant surprise for the new Foreign Press colleagues who are beginning to discover the Roman hinterland. Terremoto represents the "old tavern" of the village - now ennobled by a new furniture - which never sets with its traditional dishes; the local wine contributes to the plunge into the past.

GOURMET BREAK De Santis in Santa Croce | Rome

An "all round" place according to Anglo-Saxon colleagues. Here you can eat from breakfast, with freshly roasted coffee, to dinner, as well as an aperitif and afternoon break. Very popular for business lunches, in the evening the establishment returns to being an ancient Roman trattoria with all the related specialities.

PASTRY SHOP. The Delicious | Rome

A small place in a secluded street behind Corso Vittorio Emanuele, which is attracted by the scent of sweets. The classic biscuits to be dipped in milk, the warm croissants but also the more elaborate cakes such as the Mimosa, the profiteroles or the Mont-Blanc, always well made, come out of the open laboratory in the early morning.
