Il Government aim to spot right away the necessary measures for Ilva of Taranto, ensuring production continuity while respecting health and the environment. This was assured by the Undersecretary for Economic Development, Claudius DeVincenti, in view of today's summit at Palazzo Chigi, at the end of which Prime Minister Enrico Letta will have to pronounce.
"We will have to report to the Prime Minister on the result of yesterday's meeting at the Ministry of Development - De Vincenti told Rai microphones - and discuss with him what are the possible measures to address the two critical issues, which are the key points for relaunching the activity of the iron and steel industry with respect for the environment and health. We naturally aim for concreteness. Today we will begin to outline the measures to be taken, but these will then be studied in depth in the coming days ".
In recent days, the judiciary ordered a precautionary seizure for eight billion euros against the Taranto group, which was followed by the resignation of the entire top management. The way to solve the case it has therefore become even more impervious and now four possible ways open to the largest steel plant in Europe: liquidation, nationalisation, receivership or sale to third parties. At the moment, the most probable measure seems to be the appointment of an ad acta commissioner for the implementation of the Hague.
Avoiding the closure of the plant, underlined De Vincenti, “is decisive for us. The key objective of the Government is to ensure the production continuity of the plant and ensure that the company makes the necessary investments to create the Hague (integrated environmental authorization, ed), with which we can build a steel plant compatible with respect for the environment and with the protection of citizens' health, which are the two key rights protected by the Constitution. The right to work and the right to health are the fundamental objective”. The undersecretary underlined how "fundamental it is for our country to be present with strong companies such as Ilva, but also others present in Italy in the iron and steel sector". And thus be able to guarantee 40 jobs in Taranto.
