Ilva: Arcelor respects commitments, negotiations restart

At the end of the meeting at the Ministry of Development, Minister Carlo Calenda was satisfied: “The company has confirmed the 10.000 hirings and salary levels. The table can restart”. The next tables are scheduled for November 9th and 14th. The minister renews his request to the President of the Region to withdraw the Dpcm's appeal on the environmental level

"The company has confirmed the current salary levels in addition to the 10 hires, so the table can restart". The news was given by the Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, leaving the meeting on the steel mill visibly satisfied.

Arcelor Mittal, the purchaser of the group that ended up in the hands of the commissioners, confirmed to the unions the plan for Ilva which envisages ten thousand structural workers. In the meeting, however, he showed willingness to recognize the old salary structure, with the aim of working on the variable part of the salary. In the previous version, the average labor cost would have gone from around 50 to 42 thousand euros. Arcelor Mittal would be ready today to discuss the individual elements of the plan, including the part relating to employment.

The negotiation can then restart and the next tables for the dispute between the company and the unions will be held on November 9, the one on the industrial plan, and on November 14 to address the environmental plan, union sources explained.

Minister Calenda explained that he will then convene "an institutional table with local authorities, 5 regions and, I believe, 42 municipalities involved in the Ilva dispute", he continued. And he renewed the request to the president of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano, to withdraw the Dpcm's appeal on the environmental level: "There are 5,4 billion at stake, almost a small budget".
