Fincantieri has signed a new 700 million euro contract with Virgin Voyages, the cruise company of the Virgin Group, for the construction of a cruise ship, which joins the other three already ordered. Delivery is scheduled for the end of 2023.
The construction of the first three ships has started at the Sestri Ponente shipyard (Genoa) and deliveries will take place at a rate of one per year in the three-year period 2020-2022.
Like the other ships of the class, the fourth unit will have a gross tonnage of approximately 110 tons, a length of 278 metres, a beam of 38, and will be equipped with over 1.400 cabins capable of accommodating more than 2.800 passengers on board, assisted by a crew of over 1.100.
The four vessels will be equipped with an approximately 1 MW power generation system that uses waste heat from diesel engines.
The news of the new contract pushes Fincantieri's stock on the Stock Exchange, which gains 2,6% in the mid-morning, to 1,299 euros.
