Eni, Mattarella rewards young talents

The award has reached its tenth edition and the ceremony was held at the Quirinale, in the presence of President Mattarella - From this year, the novelty of African talents.

Today at the Quirinale Palace, in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, the awarding ceremony of the tenth edition of the ENI Awards 2017, established to develop innovative ideas for a better use of energy sources and promote scientific research, issues of sustainability and respect for the environment.

In the Salone delle Feste the ceremony was opened by speeches by Emma Marcegaglia and Claudio Descalzi, President and CEO of ENI. Since its establishment in 2007, there have been more than 8 nominations and over 27 Nobel Prize winners have been part of the Scientific Commission and evaluated the research presented.

From this year the "Nobel of energy" is enriched with contents. Alongside the traditional Young Researcher of the Year award, reserved for the authors of the best PhD theses carried out in Italian universities, the Debut in Research: Young Talents from Africa was established, dedicated to young African graduates.

President Mattarella then presented the Awards:

'Energy Transition' to prof. Robert Schlögl;

'Energy Frontiers' to prof. Jens Nielsen;

'Advanced Environmental Solutions' to prof. Graham Hutchings;

'Young Researchers of the Year' to Dr. Matteo Fasano and Dr. Stefano Langè;

'Research Debut: Young Talents from Africa' to Dr. Ugwoke Onyeche Blessing and Dr. Yemane Kelemework Equbamariam. After the 2017 edition, the calls for tenders for the 2018 edition have already been published.
