Coronavirus, Inail: over 43 thousand infections at work

More than 43.399 people have contracted the coronavirus in the workplace, while the number of deaths reaches 171, half of which are concentrated in the health and welfare sector, with doctors in first place among the most affected categories. The data comes from reports of contagion arrived at Inail between the end of February and 15 May. Nine days earlier, on May 4, there were six thousand fewer Covid-19 infections of professional origin, 37.352 to be precise, while "fatal injuries" were 42 fewer.

According to what can be read in the report prepared by the INAIL statistical actuarial consultancy, with the collaboration of the central digital organization management the average age of workers who have contracted the coronavirus is 47 years old, while for fatal cases it rises to 59 years. 9 out of 10 deaths concerned workers over 50: 70,8% were between 50 and 64 years old, 19,3% were over 64 years old. As for gender, 71,7% of the infected workers are women and 28,3% men, but the gender ratio is reversed in fatal cases (82,5% men), communicates Inail.

From a geographical point of view, the INAIL analysis updated to 15 May confirms the higher incidence of infections in Northern Italy. In particular, 55,2% of total complaints and 57,9% of fatal cases come from the North-West. Between regions, 1 out of 3 infections (34,9%) and 43,9% of deaths occurred in Lombardy. Finally, with reference to productive activities, health and social assistance are confirmed as the most affected sectors, with 72,8% of the complaints (and 32,3% of the fatal cases). This is followed, with 9,2%, by the public administration, with the activities of the central and local legislative and executive bodies.
