Also in Italy begins "the year of the snake". Next Sunday China will celebrate its New Year and, judging by the latest surveys, it will be an important holiday in our country as well. Considering only the residents, the Chinese community in Italy almost counts 210 thousand people, equal to 4,6% of the total of foreigners. Economically, however, their weight is far greater than that of many other minorities.
According to the latest data emerging from a research by the Chamber of Commerce of Milan, they are within our borders over 41 sole proprietorships managed by Chinese: this means that the entrepreneurial vocation characterizes one person out of five of those coming from the land of the Dragon.
The Chinese community, after the Moroccan and Romanian ones, is in third place in the ranking of foreign entrepreneurs active in our country. At sector level, individual Chinese enterprises are mainly concentrated in three sectors: commerce (18.493 enterprises, 44,9% of the total), manufacturing activities (15.504, equal to 37,7%), hotels and restaurants (4.273, the 10,4%).
In comparison with the other non-EU citizens, the Chinese in Italy are specialized in manufacturing activities (48,2%) and in accommodation and restaurant services (23% of the total companies with owners born abroad). Between 2011 and 2012, Chinese companies in Italy grew by 5,3%.
