Camillo the Magnificent: a Tuscan oil-based cocktail dedicated to the father of the Negroni

Un unique and original drink that interprets the history and culture of a territory, with an exceptional protagonist, the Delicate Maurino oil from Frantoio Franci: it is “Camillo the Magnificent” un tribute to Count Camillo Negroni, bon vivant of both worlds, cowboy in Montana, swordsman in New York, who between 1919 and 1920 he asked the bartender of the Caffè Giacosa in Florence, Fosco Scarselli, to create a cocktail consisting of one part red vermouth, one part bitter Campari and one part gin, which from that moment took his name. To make it happen Simone Covan Bar Manager of Santa Cocktail Club and Santa Villa Cora who mixed the ingredients: theFranci oil produced on the hill of Montenero d'Orcia, a small village on the slopes of Amiata, the only extinct volcano, classified by Magnifico, European Extra Quality Olive Oil Award as the best in Europe, a gin produced with juniper berries harvested exclusively in particular Apennine areas of Tuscany, il Gran Liqueur of the Certosa of Florence, a distillate of herbs and flowers which takes up the Carthusian tradition and which has been produced since 1835, a touch of Bitter Fusetti, bitter made with a botanical mix among which the classic gentian, rhubarb and cinchona stand out with the unusual quassio, and the right hint of acidity given by bitter orange and spicy chinotto, and finally an aromatic herb: wild catmint.

The Delicate Maurino Franci oil is elegant and enveloping, perfumed and intense with a clean and persistent finish - explains Covan - making the drink more creamy and velvety on the palate and helping to make the sensation more persistent.

The preview presentation of the cocktail took place at the Santa Cocktail Club during the Florence Cocktail Week in Florence. Culture, identity, biodiversity are the values that the cultural association Award the Magnificent, European Extra Quality Olive Oil Award, chaired by Matia Barciulli, aims to make excellent extra virgin olive oil a precious and recognizable asset.
