Development Minister Carlo Calenda takes the field: he will join the Democratic Party. The news didn't surprise most, being a rumor that had already been circulating in the corridors of the Nazzareno for some time. His relationship with the next ex secretary Matteo Renzi was not the most serene: clashes and heated debates at first, attempts to mend in the last year.
Calend therefore is a candidate to be the new name of the Democratic Party, after Renzi's press conference on Monday evening turned future scenarios upside down.
The Roman minister entrusted the announcement of his decision to Twitter, and immediately afterwards, reactions but above all congratulations arrived from some of the main Dem exponents, including Prime Minister Gentiloni. A few years ago we would have had to wait for press conferences and press office notes: today it only takes two hours to start hypothesizing what the future of a center-left could be that today, after one of the greatest political failures in history, needs to start over from scratch.

But in the evening Calenda warned: “If the Democratic Party allies with the M5S, mine will be the shortest membership in history. No to showdown in the party. The leader is there and it is Gentiloni”.
