Biomethane: Snam buys Asja's plants and projects

Snam announces that it has signed an agreement with Asja Ambiente Italia for the acquisition of a portfolio of plants and projects in the biomethane production sector and the treatment of FORSU (organic fraction of municipal solid waste). The transaction was carried out through the subsidiary Snam4Environment, active in the biomethane and circular economy sector. The improvement will take place over the next five years, in relation to the state of development of the various projects, the construction of which will be managed by Asja. Rothschild & Co. advised Snam in the transaction.

In the first phase, Snam will acquire four companies that control as many recently built plants in Liguria, Lazio and Umbria. Furthermore, Snam will enter the capital of a company that owns a plant under construction and one under development in Sicily. These plants have a total capacity of approximately 8,5 MW, of which 6 MW in operation for an enterprise value of approximately 100 million euro.

Under the agreement, upon the occurrence of certain conditions, Snam will then acquire from Asja another five companies owning as many plants with a total capacity of approximately 16 MW, two of which under construction in Piedmont and Lombardy, and three in the process of being authorized in Sicily .

The initiative, says Snam in a note, "is consistent with Snam's growth strategy in the biomethane sector and more generally in the circular economy, in order to contribute to the development of a key sector in the Italian strategy of ecological transition, as also indicated by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr)".
