Clear victory for the centre-right in the administrative election ballots. Most of the 22 provincial capitals involved have passed to the FI-Lega Nord-Fdi axis, while for the Democratic Party and for all of the center-left the blow is very hard. Red strongholds such as Genoa and Pistoia have fallen, where the center-right had never won, and six municipalities out of six - including Piacenza - in Emilia-Romagna. Even Sesto San Giovanni, the former Stalingrad of Italy, has moved to the centre-right. Same outcome in Monza, Lodi, Asti and Verona. The centre-left consoles itself by winning in Lecce, Taranto, Padua and Lucca. Parma remains with the former M5S Pizzarotti. Overall, the turnout was 46%, 13% less than in the first round.
The leader of the Democratic Party in the Chamber, Ettore Rosato, admitted defeat: "We lost - he said - the right won". Matteo Renzi, on the other hand, gave Facebook a different reading:
“Now I'm going all the way, to govern. The next are Renzi, Gentiloni and Boschi”, exults Salvini “seeing” the Northern League traction of today's triumph. "It is a historic result, the center-right will treasure it", is the clear message that Giovanni Toti, after the triumph of the "model" that bears his name in Liguria, sends to the leaders of Fi, Lega and Fdi, start right from Berlusconi. "United we win, no time wasters", urges Giorgia Meloni anticipating a debate that will become fiery in the coming days.
