The smartphone surpasses the web: the app, developed by Infocamere on behalf of Unioncamere, has won over 6 out of 10 SMEs

Digitalization: 1,5 million businesses use the "impresa Italia" app

Mobile communication with public administration is popular with Italian entrepreneurs, especially those managing companies with more than 10 employees and operating in the energy, high-tech, advanced services, and healthcare sectors. This is according to a user analysis of the "impresa italia" app—developed by Infocamere on behalf of Unioncamere and the Chamber of Commerce system to streamline the relationship between entrepreneurs and the Chambers of Commerce and Public Administration—which has recently surpassed 1,5 million participating companies.  

Also considering the companies that use the consolidated web modality through the place, the total number of participants reaches 3,5 million who, since the launch of the initiative, have downloaded over 23 million official documents (including inspections and balance sheets) for free, for an overall saving estimated at approximately 230 million euros.

“The smartphone's overtaking of the web tells us that digital is increasingly becoming a tool in the hands of the entrepreneur, who is starting to realise that the Public Administration is providing useful tools for managing and developing one's own company”, said the president of Unioncamere, Andrea Prete. "At the same time, the urgency of expanding the use of this tool to include microenterprises, which are still unable to fully realize the benefits of digital transformation in their relationships with public administration and the market, is clearly evident."

What is the "impresa italia" app?

The “impresa italia” app can be downloaded from all app store and is accessible with digital identity (Spid or Cie/Cns). The tool provides legal representatives and company owners with a series of foperational functions for digitally manage the documents of your company, directly from your smartphone. Specifically, you can consult and download Chamber of Commerce certificates, financial statements, articles of association and bylaws, certificates, and the Certificate of Registration in the National Register of Environmental Managers for free, with the option of quickly and securely sharing your data with business partners or credit institutions. You can track the progress of applications submitted to the Business Register and the One-Stop Shop for Productive Activities (SUAP) in real time, and check the status of your business's compliance obligations in real time. You can also pay the annual Chamber of Commerce registration fee directly from the app. An alert system is also available, allowing entrepreneurs to receive useful information and news about development opportunities for their business.

Entrepreneurs who prefer mobile

The analysis of the updated monitoring data from July 2026 reveals a average app adoption rate of 44,9% of the entire group of companies already participating in the web platform (3,5 million). The use of the app is more prevalent as the company size increases, reaching 56,1% among small companies (10–49 employees), jumping to 63,2% among medium-sized companies (50–249) and settling at 61,6% among large companies (≥250), while it remains at 44% among those with less than 10 employees. The preference for the app exceeds the 50% threshold among the most structured companies, such as joint-stock companies (51%) or other forms (cooperatives, consortia, entities) where the share is close to 55%, while among individual enterprises it stops at 37,3%.

The spread of the app is prevalent in the sectors high rate of innovation, regulation or professional content, such as Energy Supply (63,9%) ICT (58,0%), Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities (54,1%), Education and Training (53,8%) and Health and Social Care (52,9%).

A territorial levelThe analysis shows that in four regions, mobile is the preferred choice over the web: Sardinia (51,9%), Trentino-Alto Adige (50,4%), Piedmont (50,1%), and Umbria (exactly 50,0%). Regions in the South, Center, and North of Italy, such as Basilicata (49,5%), Lazio (49,4%), Valle d'Aosta (48,6%), Sicily (48,5%), and Lombardy (45,7%), are very close to overtaking the national average. Calabria (39,3%), Tuscany (36,0%), and Marche (34,0%) remain below the national average (44,9%).
