Annuities: revocation for Previti and Toni Negri

Toni Negri and Cesare Previti are among the six former deputies over the age of 80 whose parliamentary life annuities have been revoked by the Bureau of the Chamber.

The motivation is very simple: the former leader of Autonomia Operaia and Berlusconi's former lawyer were convicted with a final sentence to sentences exceeding two years' imprisonment for intentionally committed or attempted crimes, for which imprisonment up to a maximum of six years.

The decision, based on a resolution passed in 2015 on the matter by the presidency office, concerns not only Negri and Previti but also the former deputies Giuseppe Astone, Giuseppe Del Barone, Luigi Farace and Luigi Sidoti. The decision was taken on the basis of the documentation sent to the Chamber by the Court of Cassation in relation to former deputies over eighty years of age: beyond this age threshold, the criminal records no longer report convictions.

Simone Baldelli (Forza Italia), vice president of the Chamber, did not participate in the vote together with his colleagues Adornato, Fontana and Vignali, because, in his opinion, the Bureau is not entitled to such a decision. Davide Caparini (Lega) abstained.
