The film industry is among the most flourishing of all, in which mind-boggling investments are made. What makes a film a product so requested by the general public and the protagonists real superstars? THE film they have the merit of putting together different sensory modalities: visual, movement, emotions, narration, music, words, all expertly assembled to tell a story in two hours in which we can identify and feel strong emotions.

Even more so than books, which contain even more detailed narration, i film they win the challenge because they have the visual scenes, which for us humans represent the most used sensory modality. Sight, as mentioned in last week's article, is the most developed sense and therefore also the most effective, even when we want to use it to remember information.

We are at tenth episode of the column a “winning brain”, the result of FIRSTonline's collaboration with the Professor Giuseppe Alfredo Iannoccari, neuropsychologist, professor at the State University of Milan and president of Assomensana, the association for the development and enhancement of mental activities. Fifth strategy to activate memory: let's create a filmed story

Today we propose the fifth, and final, strategy natural of the memory, the most powerful we have: the “Creation of one filmed story”, that is, mentally imagining a story where we actually “see” what we want to remember. If instead of remembering, for example, that Hannibal crossed the Alps with elephants, we imagined the scene of this leader with a long line of pachyderms, perhaps in a snowstorm in the middle of high mountains, we would remember it much better and for much longer. .

Plug the information in a story in motion, with exciting elements, allows you not only to remember the words, but also to remember them in the exact order in which they were placed. And if we have used the strategy well, we can remember the words even from the last to the first or know which is, for example, the third, the tenth, the twelfth and so on. Delivery: compose a funny and whimsical story with the following 15 words:

NAIL – TREE – BLACKBERRY – LIGHT – MEADOW – CARLO – FIERO – MATTER – CRATER – FLASK – CUP – WINGS – CLOAK – BRANCH

Execution time: 120 seconds.

Score: 40 points if you have constructed a funny and extravagant visual story.
60 points more if you remember the 15 words correctly by heart.

Traguardo: Score at least 100 points in the given time.

Strengthening: repeat the exercise by repeating the words backwards, from the last to the first.
