Wine: Italy's exploits in the world competition on pairing food and rosé wines

Italy, conquered five titles at the first edition of the Food & Rosé Selection of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles dedicated to pink wine labels that in L'Aquila saw 'parade' over 120 top European labels, from France, to Portugal, to Spain, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldavia, Slovakia, competing for the best food-rosé wine pairings of the year.

Twenty-four pink labels which, according to the prestigious jury composed of 45 international experts, shine for their marked versatility not only during happy hour but also and above all throughout the meal, so much so that they are a candidate to become the new 'star' on the tables of every consumer, expert or simple enthusiast.

Our country took first place in the categories: aperitif (with the Joy Rosé Brut 2020 from the Friulian company Forchir Di Bianchini), raw fish (with the Marisa Cuomo Rosato 2020 from the Campania winery Marisa Cuomo), cured meats (with the d'Amour 2019 from the Ligurian company Possa), cooked meat (with Karma Rosé 2020 from the Abruzzo company Chiusa Grande) and cheese (with Il Casato Pinot Grigio Rosato 2020 from the Venetian company Schenk Italia).

The cooking of the Magione Papale restaurant in L'Aquila animated the competition, which for the occasion proposed land and sea dishes typical of Abruzzo, prepared together with the students of the "Leonardo da Vinci L'Aquila" Institute of Hospitality. A real roundup of excellence made in Abruzzo, blindly proposed together with the finalist wines of the competition in the form of gourmet recipes ranging: from Paccheri with sweet Ventricina del Vastese and small mozzarella to DOP Saffron from L'Aquila to cold Santo Lentil Soup Stefano di Sessanio, Potato "Agata" PGI from Fucino and spicy liver sausage from Aquila; from Abruzzo-style fish soup to Pescocostanzo Caciocavallo on Solina bread with wildflower honey from Abruzzo; from Abruzzese Arrosticini to Veils of sword with Atessa royal dry fig on fried piangiocche; up to the sweet recipes based on soft Amaretti and mostaccioli, without forgetting the proposals for the aperitif, such as the Strascicata of beef sirloin.

The race was also an opportunity to take stock of the pink drink phenomenon thanks to meetings organized by: Consortium for the Protection of Abruzzo Wines; Gilles Masson and Nathalie Poulzagues, respectively director and project manager of the Center for research and experimentation on rosé wine in Provence; Pierpaolo Penco, food and wine marketing consultant of Affinamenti and Italy Country Manager of Wine Intelligence; Kateřina Slezáková and Gaia Gottardo, respectively Vinolok marketing manager and Vinolok distributor at Amorim Cork Italia SpA

The next Selezione Rosé edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles will be held in March 2022, but this time in Spain.
