Usa, consumer confidence above expectations

US consumer confidence rose more than expected in October: to 94,5 points from 89 in September. The figure, released by the Conference Board, is therefore clearly better than the expectations of US analysts, who expected a drop to 87 points.

During the month, the sub-index that measures the opinion on current business conditions rose from 93 to 93,7 points while the index of expectations jumped by more than eight points to 95 points from 86,4 in September.

"Consumers have regained confidence in the short-term prospects of the economy and employment - commented the chief economist of the Conference Board, Lynn Franco - and are more optimistic about the potential of their next earnings".
