La Switzerland said it was ready to host a possible summit on the war in Ukraine between the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, and the Russian head of state, Vladimir Putin, if both leaders request it. He announced this to the daily newspaper Le Temps Swiss Foreign Ministry spokesman Nicolas Bideau added that his country has already informed Ukraine, Russia and the United States of its “availability” to welcome “any diplomatic effort which allows to establish the medium-high pace".

Trump, who will inaugurate his second term in the White House on 20st January, confirmed that it is working to arrange a meeting with Putin. The Kremlin, through its spokesman Dmitry Peskov, welcomed Trump's offer but clarified that the issue will not be discussed in depth before the inaugurationThe Ukrainian government reacted lukewarmly to Trump's announcement and instead assured, through the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, George Tikhi, which will commit to establishing “high-level” bilateral contacts with the new American administration.
