Terna will apply the evaluation criteria of the Envision international protocol to the new electricity transmission works: the first rating system used to design and make sustainable infrastructure. The company that manages the Italian electricity grid is the first internationally to draw up these guidelines and will be able to submit the sustainability of its projects to concrete and objective verification, from an environmental, social and economic point of view, and throughout their life cycle.
This protocol – reads a note – will allow the company led by Stefano Donnarumma “to further enhance and optimize the processes of concertation, planning, construction and maintenance of electricity infrastructures through participatory dialogue with the territory. And to "improve assessments and checks on the average life span and resilience of individual works, for the benefit of the environment and the protection of local communities, for a more efficient, secure and sustainable electricity grid".
What is the Envision Protocol?
Conceived in 2012 by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure, in collaboration with Harvard University, the protocol is based on a framework divided into 64 sustainability and resilience indicators divided into five categories: quality of life, leadership, resource allocation, natural world, climate and resilience. The first Envision guideline created and adopted by Terna was approved by the ICMQ certification body, which has the mandate for the exclusive dissemination of the protocol on the Italian territory.
