Electricity consumption down in August. Last month, Terna communicates, the demand for electricity in Italy, equal to 24,1 billion kilowatt hours, decreased by 1,6% compared to August 2013. Considering the joint effect of temperature and calendar, approximately one and a half degrees Celsius less and one working day less (20 against 21), the drop was 4%.
Of the 24,1 billion kilowatt hours requested in August, adds the company, "41,3% are distributed in the North, 29,5% in the Center and 29,2% in the South. At the territorial level, the change in energy demand was negative in the North (-6,4%) and in the Center (-3,8%), almost stationary in the South (-0,1%)”.
In August, explains Terna, 92,2% of the demand for electricity was met with domestic production and the remainder (7,8%) with the balance of electricity exchanged with foreign countries. In particular, net national production (22,4 billion kilowatt hours) fell by 2,3% compared to August 2013. Sources of hydroelectric production (+23,8%), wind (+22,3% ), photovoltaic (+9,1%) and geothermal (+1,3%). The thermal source decreased (-14,1%).
In comparison with July, adds the company, "the seasonally adjusted variation of electricity demand in August was equal to -0,4%. The trend profile remains on a slightly negative trend”. In the first eight months of 2014, the demand for electricity “decreased by 3,3% compared to the values of the corresponding period of 2013; with the same calendar, the value is -3,1%”.
