Lombardy is firmly at the top of the Italian culinary regions with 58 starred restaurants but the pink jersey remains The Osteria Francescana in Modena News between the two stars

The Michelin Guide confirms with its authority the high level of Italian catering. The 2017 edition, presented in Parma, keeps the first podium of high-class chefs unchanged: there were 8 three-starred chefs and 8 remained. There is Massimo Bottura of L'Osteria Francescana in Modena, the first restaurant in the world in the list of The World's Best Restaurants Awards 2016 in New York, which has now become the standard-bearer of Italian excellence in the kitchen, there is Heinz Beck of La Pergola of the Rome Cavalieri Hotel, and there are Niko Romito of Reale in Castel di Sangro, Massimiliamo Alajmo from Le Calandre in Rubano, the youngest chef in history to have obtained a three-star rating from the Michelin Guide in 2002, Enrico Crippa from Piazza Duomo in Alba, Enrico Cerea from Da Vittorio in Brusaporto, Nadia Santini of Dal Pescatore in Canneto Sull'Oglio, other restaurants that boast the uninterrupted presence of 20 years at the top of the Michelin stars, and the Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence.

Overall they amount to 343 restaurants awarded in the 2017 edition of the Michelin Guide which dispensed one star to 294 establishments, 2 stars to 41 establishments and 3 stars to 8 establishments. And this confirms Italy as the second country in the world after France for the number of stars.

If the eight best Italian restaurants maintain their primacy there is news between the two stars: five new restaurants have entered this category. And on the subject of firsts, Enrico Bartolini is worth mentioning, who hits a trio that has never been successful before, with three of his establishments: the Mudec in Milan which wins two stars, the Trattoria Bartolini in Castiglione della Pescaia and the Casual in Bergamo which were awarded with a star on each side.

The other two new stars went to Antonio Guida's Seta, to Alfio Ghezzi of the Locanda Margon in Trento, to Heinrich Schneider of La Terra in Val Sarentino and to Nino Di Costanzo of the Danì Maison in Ischia. Instead, they come off the second podium the Devero restaurant in Cavenago di Brianza where there was a change of chef, and Oliver Glowig who closed his restaurant in Rome.

Piedmont returns to second position, with 39 starred, a three star, four two star and 34 one star restaurants, followed by Campania which wins 39 starred restaurants like Piedmont but not boasting any Three Star restaurant it has to take a step lower.
