Renzi: "New President at the end of the month"

Silvio Berlusconi raises his voice: "The left has all the offices, it is right to expect a President of the Republic who is not the sequel to the last three" - The Premier: "We do not accept vetoes from anyone, otherwise we will elect him ourselves"

Renzi: "New President at the end of the month"

After the resignation of Giorgio Napolitano, "we will reasonably be able to have the new President of the Republic at the end of the month". This is the prediction announced yesterday by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, which takes into account the calendar hypothesized by the Chamber. The first convocation is on the agenda for the afternoon of January 29, then perhaps two votes on the 30th, to arrive at the awaited fourth vote (when the quorum will drop from two thirds to an absolute majority) on Saturday January 31st.

Meanwhile, however, Silvio Berlusconi raises his voice: “The left has the president of the Senate, the president of the Chamber, the president of the Council and the president of the Court – said the leader of Forza Italia yesterday -. I believe it is a logical and fair question to claim to have a president of the Republic who is not the sequel to the last three left-wing presidents of the Republic who have brought this country into a situation of non-democracy".

Words to which Renzi replied in the evening, interviewed by Daria Bignardi on La7: “No one can veto them: I do not accept them from Berlusconi, I do not accept them from Salvini, nor those of the Democratic Party. Stop stop. To think that the President of the Republic can be imagined as a figurine of this or that party… let's calm down”. In short, if Forza Italia were to get in the way of the election of the next President of the Republic, "we elect him ourselves", commented the Premier.
