Ntv: here is the new Pendolino by Italo

Fire red, futuristic nose designed to guarantee protection for the driver and better aerodynamic performance. These are the most evident characteristics of the new Italo pendulum, presented today at the Ntv headquarters by CEO Flavio Cattaneo and Pierre-Louis Bertina, number one of Alstom Ferroviaria, the company that is building the new vehicle for the Italian private operator.

The external design of the train is taken care of by Alstom's Design & Styling centre, which has already taken care of the style of the AGV Italo. The interiors will be chosen and presented in the coming months. The Pendolino is designed to be a green train, capable of guaranteeing reduced CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

In terms of technical characteristics, the train that Alstom will supply will be the evolution of the Pendolino: a high-speed train with distributed traction that can reach 250 km/h. The train configuration will have 7 carriages and will be able to accommodate 480 passengers in 187 meters in length.

“We began our journey with Alstom – commented Cattaneo – and we will continue together along a path that is leading us to grow in a difficult market, but which offers great development opportunities for everyone. The demand for mobility in Italy is very high and Italo promises, with its high-quality services and its new high-tech trains, to be able to satisfy an increasingly important part of it".

The 8 trains, purchased by Ntv on 28 October, have already entered the planning of the Alstom plants in Savigliano (CN), which will handle the design and production of the train, Sesto San Giovanni will design and produce the traction systems and Bologna, will take care of reporting.

Louis Bertina recalled that the Pendolino is “a versatile and high-performance train that over the years has sold more than 500 models all over the world, with a mileage of more than 1000 million kilometres. This choice contributes to the support of local industry. Italy has a great need for transport, and national preference, with the same quality and price, has always proved to be an advantage for operators”.

The maintenance of the new train will be carried out in the Nola (NA) plant, already responsible for Italo's maintenance. The trains will be delivered starting at the end of 2017 ready to enter service at the beginning of 2018.
