New York Oil Competition: gold, silver and bronze for Farchioni in the USA

Great success at the New York International Olive Oil Competition for Farchioni, the company based in Umbria that has been producing quality oil, wine, beer and flour since 1780. Farchioni was awarded three gold medals for three leading labels of its production: "Selection of Mediterranean Oils", "Family Collection" and "PDO Umbria Colli Martani". The Umbrian company also scored another important success at the Los Angeles International EVOO Competition, winning a silver for the "Family Collection" oil (category "Northern Hemisphere Oils") and a bronze for the "Selection of Mediterranean Oils" (category "Art/Illustration", in the section dedicated to packaging).

The New York International Olive Oil Competition, which opened in 2013, has quickly become the largest and most prestigious olive oil competition in the world. The annual list of winners is considered a sort of 'bible' of the best extra virgin olive oils of the year. In this year's edition, which saw the participation of around 900 companies from 26 countries around the world, the judges evaluated around 1000 samples of extra virgin olive oil. The results of the competition are followed by producers, importers, chefs, distributors, catering professionals and journalists from all over the world.

Likewise, the Los Angeles International Extravergin Olive Oil Competition, now in its 21st edition and inspired by high standards of integrity and professionalism, is one of the most prestigious competitions in the United States and the fifth in the world. Here too hundreds of companies come from the most important countries for the production of green gold: Argentina, Australia, Chile, Greece, Italy, Spain, United States of America, Japan, Portugal, Tunisia, Turkey.

“The competitions in New York and Los Angeles – explains Marco Farchioni, manager of the company – rely on a list of super-competent judges in tasting the best extra virgin olive oils. These competitions are the top of the agri-food scene in the United States of America but, having extended the competition across the border to include oils from the northern and southern hemispheres of the globe, today they represent an indispensable point of reference on a global scale. Precisely for these reasons, we are very proud of the results achieved. Together with the other fellow producers, we have contributed to keeping the name of Italian oil high in the world”.

An important circuit of experts and teachers is active around the American competitions, committed to educating consumers to the knowledge of wine and extra virgin olive oil, thanks to a wide selection, tasting activities and the proposal of gastronomic pairings: a great opportunity to promote Italian oil.

The Mediterranean Oil Selection, awarded in New York, is a 'special edition' made from a personal selection of the best varieties of olives grown in the best production areas in Italy and abroad.

For the family collection, the olives are harvested by hand and taken in crates to the mill, where they are rapidly transformed to maintain their characteristics and organoleptic properties.

The DOP Umbria Colli Martani olives are grown in the dry and stony soils of Umbria and are pressed within 24 hours of harvesting to maintain freshness and preserve all the aromas. The color ranges from deep green to yellow.
