Libya, 7 more raids from Egypt which is asking for UN intervention

Last night the Egyptian air force struck with seven more air raids the Isis positions in Derna, a city in eastern Libya, causing dozens of deaths. This was announced by the Egyptian media, citing official Libyan sources. The Saudi daily "al Riadh" instead writes that the leader of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, is ready to take revenge for the new raids on Sirte and Derna by ordering new kidnappings of Egyptian workers in Libya. According to the Saudi newspaper, "al Baghdadi has a quick operation ready to avenge the raids in Libya."

Meanwhile, the Egyptian president al Sisi called on the United Nations to adopt a resolution to allow for international intervention in Libya. Speaking on the French radio Europe 1, the Egyptian head of state reiterated that "there is no other choice", specifying however that "it is necessary that the Libyan people agree and ask us to act to restore security and stability ”.

Previously al-Sisi had asked with the French president François Hollande the convening of a new meeting of UN Security Council to decide on "new measures" against the Islamic State. Cairo also insisted on the imperative need for a "decisive intervention" by the international community to stop the progression of Isis in Libya.

The head of European diplomacy Federica Mogherini he will meet with Egyptian and American authorities this week to discuss possible joint action in Libya, although he has currently ruled out any military role for the EU. Yesterday the premier Matteo Renzi he assured that Italy will receive "strong support for the initiatives that the UN wants to put in place: whatever the UN decides will go well", said the Premier.
