ELECTORAL LAW - Italicum towards the approval of the Senate on the wings of the Renzi-Berlusconi agreement

The pact of the Nazarene between Matteo Renzi and Silvio Berlusconi dribbles, on the wings of Senator Esposito's "superkangaroo", the thousands of amendments of the oppositions of the right and left and paves the way for the approval of the Italicum, expected in the Senate between Tuesday and Wednesday next week

ELECTORAL LAW - Italicum towards the approval of the Senate on the wings of the Renzi-Berlusconi agreement

All thanks to the super-kangaroo, the amendment-killing amendment by Pd senator Stefano Esposito, or the Pact of the Nazarene between Matteo Renzi and Silvio Berlusconi which, on the eve of the start of voting for the election of the new President of the Republic, it is paving the way for the Italicum, the new electoral law that will replace the Porcellum and avoid the Consultellum.

By decimating over 35 amendments, the super-kangaroo displaced the combative minorities of Fitto in Forza Italia and Gotor and his companions in the Democratic Party, creating the premises for the green light from the Senate to Italicum, which being the result of an inevitable compromise (because even in politics the numbers to form a majority are not an opinion) it is not perfection but it is certainly better than both the Porcellum, declared unconstitutional by the Consulta, and the Consultellum of the first Republic which would split the political system even more, making stable governments impossible .

The minorities complain about the shortcomings and inconsistencies of the Italicum but seem not to realize that everything is held together and that if a political force does not have 51% in its pocket, it can only seek compromises with other parties if it does not want to surrender to inaction. But there is no doubt that, beyond the merits of the single norms that could possibly be corrected in the next legislature, the controversies are affected and are the mirror of the divisions that are looming, as always, as the election of the Head of Government approaches State.

Paradoxically, the showdown of the Pd minority has had the opposite effect: instead of detaching Renzi from Berlusconi, it has consolidated the Nazarene agreement, without which the Italicum would never become law.

Now the finish line is closer and, if there are no new surprises, the Italicum could receive the approval of Palazzo Madama between Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
