THE REBOUNCE OF THE STOCK EXCHANGES FAILS, THE GOLD RISES. OIL STILL DOWN, SYRIZA ADVANCES IN GREECE
The rebound from Piazza Affari fails in the final. The Ftse Mib index closed at -0,15% at 18.143. The other European lists were also down: Paris -0,68%, Madrid -1,22% even worse. Limit Damage Frankfurt -0.04%. London -0,79%. The US price lists are weak. The Dow Jones fell 0,83%, the S&P 500 0,84% and the Nasdaq 1,16%. Note the leap of Aol +4,5% in the aftermath of the rumors about a negotiation for a joint venture with Verizon.
Markets changed course after the Financial Times released a survey on Greek voting intentions in the January 25 general election. In first place in the research conducted by Oxford Economics, there is Syriza with a share of about 40%, New Democracy is behind it by about 5%, all the other parties below 10%. With these numbers, Alexis Tsipras will have a broad mandate to renegotiate the agreements with Brussels.
The fall in oil continues for the fourth consecutive day. The WTI loses 4% to 48,1 dollars a barrel. Brent yields 3% to 51,60 dollars. Eni rebounded in the aftermath of the crash, the stock gained 1,5%. Saipem it lost 0,7%. Tenaris + 1,4%. Enel +1,5%: UBS has decided to include the stock in the list of favorites in the euro area (European Key Calls List), maintaining the Buy rating with a target price limited to 5 euros from the previous 5,15 euros. Gold, the safe haven asset par excellence, rose by 1,2% to 1.220 dollars, the third consecutive rise.
The spread between the Bund and the Btp, which yields 1,83%, widens to 136 basis points (+5). All down the banks, Unicredit -1,3% Understanding -1,4% Where's Banca -3,5%. Also down sharply Banca Popolare di Milano -4% mps –3,9%% and Banco Popolare -4,7%. The Exor stable goes against the trend: Cnh + 2,4% fca + 1,6%.
