Lavoro, Poletti: "A billion is missing for layoffs"

A billion is missing to refinance the redundancy fund by way of derogation. This was stated by Labor Minister Giuliano Poletti, in an interview with Repubblica in which he ruled out expecting a corrective maneuver in the short term: “Renzi and Padoan said that no new interventions are planned for 2014. For me it is decisive ”.

As for the hypothesis of reducing income support from 12 to eight months, Poletti says that nothing has been decided yet: “It is the Fornero law which provides for the gradual exit from 2014 from layoffs and mobility by way of derogation. For this reason, the previous government had prepared a decree to modify the criteria for access to cash and mobility by way of derogation and reduced financial coverage by one billion. I don't think that today there are the technical conditions to dismantle or radically change that provision".

The minister also underlines that “the fund in derogation is financed by all citizens, it is the taxes that finance the layoff fund in derogation, not the companies. And it is good not to close your eyes to the fact that there have been obvious excesses in using the cash register by way of exception".

In any case, for Poletti, a retouching of article 18, which protects against dismissals without just cause, is not forthcoming: "The enabling law does not provide for interventions on article 18". Lastly, the retirement age “will remain that of the Fornero reform. There may be flexibility but not related to age”.
