Istat: consumer confidence at its lowest since 1996

The confidence of Italian consumers dropped this month to its lowest level since 1996, the year in which the historical series began. This was communicated by Istat, explaining that in November the index dropped from 86,2 to 84,8 points.

Both the component referring to the general economic climate (from 71,5 to 69,4) and the personal one (from 91,0 to 90,9) decreased. On the other hand, the indicator of the current climate rose (from 91,9 to 92,3) while that referring to the future situation decreased (from 78,2 to 75,2). Assessments on Italy's economic situation improve (the balance from -136 to -133), while future expectations worsen (from -59 to -64). Unemployment expectations are on the rise (from 108 to 114).

Opinions and expectations on the household's economic situation worsened (from -71 to -75 and from -33 to -35 respectively). The balance of assessments on the family budget decreases (from -24 to -25), while both current savings opportunities and future possibilities show an improvement (from 135 to 143 and the respective balances from -95 to -94). Opinions on the advisability of purchasing durable goods are stable (the related balance is -111).

The balance of assessments on the recent evolution of consumer prices is decreasing (from 74 to 69). Assessments of the evolution over the next twelve months indicate an attenuation of the inflation dynamics (from 30 to 28). At a territorial level, the climate of confidence increases slightly in the South, while it decreases in the rest of the country.
