Ing closed the third quarter with a net profit of 609 million euros, which marks a contraction on an annual basis of 64%. The result is well below forecasts, which spoke of a drop to 831 million.

This was communicated by the Dutch banking and insurance group which, at the same time, announced a staff reduction plan which provides for cuts for 2.350 employees, divided between the European insurance branch and the banking branch.

"It is painful to announce these measures today", said the CEO of the group, Jan Hommen, adding that, however, "the measures are necessary to increase our flexibility in an uncertain context".
