Water infrastructure, Marinali (Acea): “Overcoming operator fragmentation to tackle climate change”

“Italy is still far behind in terms of infrastructure. On the water front, it is important to overcome the fragmentation of operators, not because there is an obligation imposed from above in this sense, but because an adequate size of operators operating with industrial dynamics is the only one that allows us to support the large investments necessary to face the effects of climate change with which we live and will live permanently". It is the warning issued by Barbara Marinali, Chairman of the Acea Group, during the panel "Utilities and investments: a development model for territories", organized by Utilitalia in Naples.

Marinali clarified “the breadth of the interventions, which Acea is committed to implementing in water sector”. In particular, “the safety of the water supply for Rome through the construction of the second line of the Peschiera aqueduct" represents a significant "financial commitment", which requires "the support of public finances" and bipartisan collaboration: "On this point, we have been able to count on the collaboration of all political parties, who have shown themselves sensitive to such a strategic investment for the resilience of the capital's water system."

According to Marinali, investment plans in the water sector must be based on three fundamental pillars: “The tariff, public contributions and the duration of concessions are the legs on which our investments are based. Finding a balance within these three components is essential for the implementation of infrastructure interventions of this magnitude".
