Il FS group continues on renewal of freight railway fleet with 40 new locomotives and 115 latest generation wagons. On the occasion of the Transport Logistic fair in Monaco, the Polo Logistics of the Italian Railways, in the presence of CEO Luigi Ferraris, signed a contract purchase agreement for 40 new interoperable locomotives Siemens with the option of a further 25. The agreement was signed by TX Logistik, the Pole company dedicated to international transport, and Siemens. The contract is worth 300 million euros and includes the maintenance of the tractors, entrusted to Siemens for the next 15 years.
The FS Logistics Hub plans to allocate 80% of the total investments over the next few years to a decisive renewal of its fleet, with the purchase of 400 locomotives and 3.600 new wagons. investments important, explains a note, which will make it possible to reduce the average age of the vehicles from the current 30 years to 7 years and which will see TxLogistik deliver a further 115 modern double pocket wagons of the T3000 type for intermodal transport by the end of the summer.
The new locomotives, which will be built at the Siemens Mobility plant in Munich-Allach, will have greater capacity, given that they will be able to transport 30% more freight tonnes with a greater focus on sustainability thanks to 25% less energy consumption. The locomotives will be delivered to the German company TX Logistik from September 2024 and will be used for freight transport along the Rhine-Alpine Corridor.
