FCA, Bentivogli: "Better Renault than PSA"

“An alliance with Renault is better for FCA than with PSA”. This is what Marco Bentivogli, secretary general of the metalworkers union Fim Cisl thinks: "The agreement was ready but the Macron government has made a disaster". The trade unionist, during an interview with Il Giornale, also explained why from an industrial and employment point of view, it would be preferable to take home the current table with Renault-Nissan rather than with Peugeot: “There may be overlaps with Renault in compact cars, but FCA – which is animating the stock market with a conspicuous increase this morning – offers the French the added value of the premium, with Alfa Romeo, and of luxury, thanks to Maserati. Renault, in this regard, is lacking. The allies Nissan and Mitsubishi, then, would guarantee the skills in the field of electrification and autonomous driving".

While Peugeot, again according to Bentivogli, “is complementary to FCA, but in this case the French would have an advantage on the American front, given that the Lingotto would facilitate access. Instead, we need to start entering Asia more forcefully. Therefore, it would be an unbalanced agreement in favor of PSA ”. The leader of Fim Cisl, who after the initial failure of the FCA-Renault operation had also harshly criticized the outgoing executive, this time indicated the transalpine rulers as the main culprits: "Both President Emmanuel Macron and the Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire, they made a fool of themselves. We have witnessed an anti-historical industrial nationalism. The two partners agreed on everything: the complete absence of the Italian government and the arrogance of Paris did the rest”.

Bentivogli also intervened on investments, asking for an acceleration of those announced in November, equal to 5 billion: "Italian FCA factories are at the forefront of technology and work organization, but investments must be accelerated. A panacea will be the plug-in hybrid Jeep Renegade and Compass from Melfi. But you have to push."
