“We have a shale gas strategy that does not necessarily pass through Italy”. Eni's managing director, Paolo Scaroni, said this when answering a question on shale gas in Italy during a hearing before the Production Activities Commission of the Chamber.
Scaroni explained that the group is trying to apply it to promising countries but in Italy “we don't know if there is any and if it is exploitable. It's a question mark theme. More than dealing with an expensive gas, I would rather exploit our conventional gas resources”.
"We are very busy in shale gas - added Scaroni - we try to apply it to promising countries, we are in Poland, in Ukraine with 9 exploration blocks, we are in China, we are very interested in South Africa".
