Cards and debit cards: from discounts to penalties, the novelties in operation

The merciless fight that the Government intends to launch against tax evasion passes through a greater diffusion of electronic payments, considered the main way to bring out the undeclared. For this reason, various measures have been included in the maneuver and in the tax decree to encourage payments by credit card, debit card and other traceable methods. However, these measures will remain on standby for a year, becoming operational in 2021.

DISCOUNTS FOR THOSE WHO PAY BY CARD

One of the most important innovations of the maneuver concerns the establishment of a superbonus to be allocated to citizens who use electronic payments: the measure is worth 3 billion for 2021, 2,8 for the following year.

The maneuver provides for "the introduction of a super bonus to be recognized at the beginning of 2021 in relation to expenses made with traceable payment instruments in sectors where the use of cash is still widespread".

Anyone who pays the hairdresser or plumber using cards and debit cards will be able to take advantage of a discount. The percentage should be set between 10 and 19%. Simply put, citizens will be able to count on the return of a portion of their spending directly to their current account.

CHANGE THE THRESHOLD TO CASH AGAIN

To date, the ceiling on the use of cash is set at 3.000 euros. The maneuver envisages reducing the maximum threshold to 2 euros as early as next year and until 31 December 2021. From 1 January 2022, the ceiling will drop again, settling at 999,99 euros.

SANCTIONS FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT ALLOW TO PAY WITH POS

The maneuver should also contain sanctions against merchants and merchants who do not allow their customers to pay with the Pos. In detail, two sanctions are envisaged: a fixed fine of 30 euros to which will be added a further tax equal to 4% of the value of the transaction for which payment in traceable mode is denied.

PRIZES FOR THOSE WHO USE ELECTRONIC PAYMENTS

Finally, as early as 2020, "the establishment of draws and special prizes for expenses paid with electronic money", announces the Government note.
