Great affirmation of independent craft beer in the 2023 edition of the Barcelona Beer Challenge. Well 38 were the breweries of our country that won a medal in the annual Spanish competition that rewards international craft beers divided into 65 categories, for a total of 67 awards (19 gold medals, 24 silver medals and 24 bronze medals). Practically more than 30% of the medals awarded were won by our breweries
The Italian brewery that has obtained the most medals has been Serra Storta of Buscate, in the province of Milan, with two golds for Bianca in the Weizen category and Alba in the smoked beers category and two silvers for 'Erica in the Kölsch and Dortmunder Export category and Cactus in the American IPA category.
He has accumulated two gold medals also for Brewpub Trulla in Nuoro for Mesubirra between the British Golden Ale and Itesinarat in the category of experimental beers.

“We want to congratulate all the Italian breweries that have received an award at the Barcelona Beer Challenge – commented Vittorio Ferraris, general manager of Unionbirrai – but also express our satisfaction with how the sector is increasingly gaining the attention of the international audience. During the last editions of the Birra dell'Anno competition we had already recorded the appreciation of the many international judges for the high level of Italian production, but the numerous prizes won also in important foreign events confirm the great quality of the national brewing production. A clear demonstration of the great growth of Italian craft beers, which year after year gain more and more recognition all over the world.”
