Battiato shock: "In Italy sluts in Parliament". Boldrini rises: "It shouldn't be allowed"

“These whores in Parliament would do anything. It is unacceptable, they should open a casino”. Strong words, very strong, which in an instant went around the world also because they were not even pronounced in Italy but directly in Brussels, in the seat of the European Parliament, in the place where in the past missiles have already been launched against the boot and the his political class.

But this time the bomb comes directly from an illustrious Italian, the singer-songwriter and councilor for tourism of the Sicily Region Franco Battiato, who did not use half measures or more pleasant terms to define the presence of women in the Italian Parliament on the occasion of a meeting whose theme central the tourist and cultural itineraries of Sicily and which instead has turned into the controversy of the day. In fact, the reaction of the new Speaker of the Chamber, Laura Boldrini, was not long in coming: "I can hardly believe that a man of culture like Franco Battiato, who is now engaged in government experience in an important region like Sicily, could have uttered such vulgar words."

“As President of the Chamber of Deputies and as a woman – continued Boldrini in a note – I firmly reject the insult that he brings to the dignity of Parliament. Not even his prestige authorizes him to use such indiscriminately offensive expressions ”. Battiato himself then corrected the shot, without, however, apologizing or going back on the use of the term "sluts", but rather providing his own personal interpretation: "It is clear that I have been misunderstood - said Battiato, a sympathizer of the Movimento 5 Stelle di Beppe Grillo – I repeat, I said that in Parliament there were deputies, from a certain political party, who were ready for anything. Hence the word "slut", but in the sense of "prostitute", and I was talking about both men and women. And then excuse me: is it worse to use the word "slut" or all those things that some deputies have done? Were they worthy to sit in Parliament?”
