Austria: restrictions and closures only for the unvaccinated

In Austria, generalized closures will no longer be introduced, but restrictions reserved only for the unvaccinated against Covid-19 - Chancellor Kurz: "They will be protective measures for citizens most at risk" - Tougher controls on the green pass and push on the third dose

Austria: restrictions and closures only for the unvaccinated

If the epidemiological situation from Covid-19 worsens again, causing a rise in infections, Austria will introduce new restrictions aimed only at unvaccinated citizens. This was announced by chancellor Sebastian Kurz during a television broadcast broadcast on the Orf broadcaster, during which he illustrated his five-point plan against Covid.

The new Austrian plan starts from the calculation parameters. The criterion of incidence will no longer be decisive for the introduction of new restrictions. The main indicator will instead become that relating to thebed occupancy in intensive care units: “In a phased plan, the measures will be linked to the achievement of a certain occupancy rate,” he said.

The chancellor then clearly stated that if the infections rise again, generalized lockdowns will not be envisaged: “If protective measures become necessary, they will no longer be at a national level, but reserved for unvaccinated people”. The reason is obvious: for the unvaccinated, the risk of developing a serious form of the disease is 50 times higher than that of the vaccinated. Among the restrictions that will be taken into consideration are above all bans on nightlife and major events.

On the vaccine front, Kurz said he wanted to "constantly carry out" boosters, i.e. the third dose, highlighting the goal of "increasing the willingness to be vaccinated". The Austrian government also plans to tighten controls to prevent the spread of fake green passes. “There are more and more false vaccination certificates in circulation,” the chancellor said.
Finally, speaking of school, the chancellor announced that constant tests will be carried out in order to guarantee face-to-face teaching.
