In September, Italian companies will hire 310 people, a figure that represents a decrease of 28,7 compared to the same month of 2019. This was revealed by the Bulletin of the Excelsior information system, created by Unioncamere and Anpal.
The research underlines that this is a "particularly cautious restart of activities in view of the autumn" but "signs of recovery are evident for the construction and food industries".
Broadening the horizon of analysis to the September-November quarter the study predicts a downward flow of hirings compared to the same period of 2019 and a parallel increase in the share of companies (from 49,1% in June to 64,9% in August) that expect the recovery of pre-covid production levels not before June 2021.
Going back to September, the Excelsior bulletin shows that of the 310 planned hirings, approximately 89 thousand (29%) should concern young people up to 29 years of age. As mentioned, the food and construction industries are the sectors that, according to forecasts, will hire the most with (respectively) 11 and 34 expected revenues.

However, there is an important aspect to take into consideration: “the difficulty of finding them is clearly increasing for some of the main outlet professions of the two sectors”, explains the study which gives the example of artisans and skilled workers in food processing. 3.680 are being sought, but in 43,7% of cases they are difficult to find figures, (+7 points on September 2019). The same goes for craftsmen and skilled workers in construction and maintenance of building structures (13.190 entries, 29,6% difficult to find, +4 points) and craftsmen and skilled workers involved in finishing construction (11.870 entries, 49,9% the difficulty of finding, +7 points).

As regards the other sectors, particular difficulties are encountered on the employment prospects of fashion and tourism systemsheavily penalized by the low demand on international markets. Speaking instead of the type of business, "micro and small businesses (1-49 employees), especially in the manufacturing and construction sectors, seem to react better in this phase of slow recovery by limiting the job losses planned for the month of September to -25,5 .2019% (compared to 50), while for medium-large companies (33,3 and over) the expected drop is larger (-XNUMX%)”.
Finally geography: the regions of the South, the Islands and the North-West are doing better than the average, while the forecasts of the companies of the North-East and the Center are more negative.
