Here comes the artisanal gelato blockchain: everything traced

At Cheese 2019 Alberto Marchetti, master gelato maker, presents a platform that allows consumers to trace the entire gelato production chain. A digital passport to protect Made in Italy

Who is the milk supplier? Which farm do the eggs come from? How and where was the sugar processed? How many consumers ask themselves these questions when they enter an ice cream parlor and order a tasty fruit or cream cone? It's time to start asking these questions to responsibly know what we eat and what it can lead to.

Master Gelatiere three Gambero Rosso cones Alberto Marchetti is now facing the times of a new awareness of artisanal gelato, presenting at Cheese, in Bra (Cn) from 20 to 23 September, presents an innovative blockchain platform dedicated to ice cream that will allow consumers to track their favorite flavours.

Everything becomes clear, in a direct communication channel between producer and consumer, which provides a "digital passport" of the products, also useful for protecting Made in Italy and enhancing the work of each operator, for conscious, transparent and quality consumption .

Thanks to the same bitcoin technology, the consumer will be able, through a simple click with his smartphone, to keep track of the entire ice cream production chain.

From finance to food, from bank transactions to the agri-food production chain. The blockchain is an IT tool that exploits peer-to-peer technology, a sort of decentralized, distributed and shared "public register" where inside anyone can store information in an immutable and indelible way. The veracity of this information is guaranteed by the entire network of actors involved in the transaction who view, validate or reject any data entered in the chain.

Alberto marchettiIn partnership with food chain – blockchain company applied to agri-food – uses technology to trace and certify the raw materials of its ice cream from the origin to the final consumer. The mobile phone becomes an increasingly important information tool for the consumer than with a single click, by scanning the QR Code combined with the flavor of the ice cream chosen, he will be able to access a hi-tech, certified, traced and safe ingredients cartel, and traces the origin and history of each raw material along the entire production chain.

The ice cream blockchain will be one of the big news a Cheese 2019, the Italian event dedicated to the world of quality dairy products. In the Ice Cream Square curated by Alberto Marchetti, by framing two QR codes with a mobile phone, everyone will be able to trace the origin of the raw materials of two flavours: fiordilatte and coffee. The Piazza del Gelato will be a space open to the public and professionals where, also thanks to the partnership with Inalpi and the Italian School of High Gelato, Alberto gelatieri from all over Italy will work alongside Alberto to enhance the close relationship between gelato and territory. All proceeds from the sales of the Piazza's ice creams will be donated to the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity Onlus.
