Amazon declares war on fake reviews

After the Sunday Times unmasked a market of reviewers who publish 5-star comments on some products for a fee, Amazon is suing more than 1.000 "counterfeiters".

Amazon declares war on fake reviews

Amazon Lashes Out at Review Counterfeiters. The e-commerce giant has sued more than a thousand reviewers in Seattle and Washington courts for posting positive comments in exchange for compensation.

Last week the Sunday Times had brought that out the scandal of fake reviews paid on Amazon, publishing an e-book on the Kindle Store and pushing it to the top in the gardening sector storefront thanks to numerous positive comments from fake buyers.

In general, the case related to Amazon is quite important since we are not dealing with simple "fake reviewers", but with reviewers who post 5-star reviews that are verified for the site, i.e. users who actually bought the product.

How do you explain? The deception is perfectly tested. Sly reviewers pretend to buy a product and manage to have an empty package sent home, thus proving that the transaction has been completed. At that point for the Amazon system the fake user review seems real and therefore worthy of being marked as verified.
