Alcoa: Bentivogli (Fim Cisl) new SiderAlloys plan. Open Sardinia dispute

The general secretary of the Fim Cisl Marco Bentivogli illustrated the progress of the negotiations for the sale of the former Alcoa plant in Portovesme. Upon completion of the due diligence, Sider Alloys submitted an offer that contains non-viable elements and will be reworked and sent by next Monday.

During the Regional Congress of Sardinian metalworkers underway in Tramatza (Oristano), the Fim Cisl Secretary General Marco Bentivogli illustrated the progress of the negotiations for the sale of the former Alcoa plant in Portovesme. Upon completion of the due diligence, Sider Alloys submitted an offer that contains non-viable elements and will be reworked and sent by next Monday.

In the meantime, the American fund KPS has also come forward and is already ready for the due diligence. In addition, other European sector operators are evaluating whether to proceed with any other expressions of interest.

This framework requires us once again to do well and quickly. Too much time has passed since the shutdown of the smelter and workers are increasingly exposed to any form of social safety net. Minister Carlo Calenda has assured us of the maximum commitment to close as soon as possible the path that leads to the sale of the plant and its restart.

Now it is necessary not to waste time: the transfer to Invitalia must be closed with Alcoa and the issue relating to the reclamations must be settled. The plant, which has been closed for four years, cannot afford any further postponements.

Disputes such as Alcoa, Keller and too many perpetually unresolved are producing desperation and a new migratory drive, with unsustainable social costs.

It's time for concrete answers and mobilisation, we won't leave anyone alone.
