At the age of 89, Tina Anselmi died at her home in Castelfranco Veneto, the first woman to have held the office of minister in Italy. You were appointed holder of the Department of Labor and Social Security in July 1976, in one of the Andreotti governments.

Elected several times as a parliamentarian with the Christian Democrats, after holding the position of Minister of Labor Anselmi was also Minister of Health in the fourth and fifth Andreotti governments, linking her name to the reform that introduced the National Health Service.

In 1981, during the eighth legislature, she was appointed president of the Commission of Inquiry into the P2 Masonic lodge, which finished its work in 1985. The funeral will be celebrated on Friday 4 November in the Cathedral of Castelfranco Veneto.

“With Tina Anselmi an exemplary figure in republican history disappears – says Prime Minister Matteo Renzi – Partisan, trade unionist, engaged in political life and institutions, first female minister in Italian history. Her commitment to equal opportunities and against the P2 and her strong and discreet personality have made her an example for anyone who believes in politics as a passion for freedom.
