Ryanair also cuts flights to Sicily for winter 2023/24. As a result of the government decree on high flight prices, the Irish low-cost company has announced that it will reduce its winter operations in Sicily too. “We already have reduced flights by 10% in Sardinia – declared the CEO of Ryanair Michael O'Leary – and we will do it this winter for Sicily”, always 10% of domestic flights, “and we will move these flights to international routes”, where there are no limitations on the cost of the ticket. “And we won't stop here,” O'Leary thundered. Adding that domestic supply “will be affected by the government's stupid price decree, based on junk data and which will reduce flights by increasing fares”.
Statements arrived during a press conference in Milan for the presentation of the winter offer of the Irish company where Ryanair announced 2 new aircraft and 10 new foreign routes from Milan and Bergamo. New flights planned from Orio al Serio and Malpensa which however will only be international.
Ryanair's attack
Then the attack on political institutions. “The European Commission – she explained – will soon give the green light to theagreement between Ita and Lufthansa, because the EU always gives the green light to Germany and France. If Italy, Ireland or other small countries ask for something, they say 'we're not sure, we need to look into it further, but if it's Germany or France, they immediately give the ok. This is not right".
“The European courts – concluded the CEO – will cancel these rules because they are illegitimate and contrary to freedom of enterprise. These are idiotic acts. We are encouraged to reduce connections within Italy to favor international destinations where there is freedom to set prices."
Ryanair's winter offer
La winter season of Ryanair from Milan (Orio al Serio plus Malpensa) plans the use of 2 new planes and 10 new routes for a total of 120, with destinations Belfast (United Kingdom), Brussels (Belgium), Cluj and Iasi (Romania), Kaunas (Lithuania), Lanzarote and Tenerife (Spain), Lublin (Poland), Rovaniemi (Finland) and Tirana. The offer on another 30 existing international routes has also been strengthened, including Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga and Valencia (Spain), Marrakech (Morocco) and Vienne (Austria). From Milan, Ryanair operates 120 routes, carrying over 17 million passengers a year.
