Germany: December retail sales down

Retail sales in Germany decreased in December, down by 0,9% in real terms compared to the previous year and by 1,4% on a monthly basis – In November, sales had already recorded a negative trend: -1 %.

Germany: December retail sales down

Federal Statistical Office Destatis today released data on German retail sales for December, recording a decline of -1,4% on a monthly basis and -0,9 on an annual basis.

The indicators come unexpectedly to economists, with reference to forecast expectations for the end of 2011: +0,9% on the month and +1,4% on the year. Although the annual figure for November was positive, of +0,9%, the monthly value had already shown a negative trend, equal to -1%.
