Italian State Railways renews its top management and opens a new phase. Thirteen days after resignation of Stefano Antonio Donnarumma, the shareholders' meeting of Fs Italiane has the board of directors has been appointed for the three-year period 2026-2028, indicating Gianpiero Strisciuglio including new CEO and confirming Tommaso Tanzilli to the presidency. The council will now formalize the appointment.
The decision came at the end of the shareholders' meeting, held on Monday morning. Ministry of Economy, Ferrovie dello Stato's sole shareholder with 100% of the shares, has submitted its list for the renewal of the board. Before the new board was appointed, the four members of the previous board resigned.
FS, the new Board of Directors: who's coming in and who's staying
The board of directors will consist of seven members: Tommaso Tanzilli, Gianpiero Strisciuglio, Pietro Hound, Franco Fenoglio, Loredana Ricciotti, Silvia Marzot e Daniela RouteA team focused on renewal through continuity, confirming three outgoing directors, but also introducing two new members: Marzot, a former member of Trenitalia's board of directors, and Rota, who joins from the Ministry of Economy and Finance. And above all, there's a change in CEO. The board renewal marks an early end to the Donnarumma era, whose term would have expired next year.
For Strisciuglio, this is a natural move within the group. A manager with 25 years of experience at Ferrovie dello Stato, he previously led Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and, more recently, Trenitalia. He will also assume the role of General Manager of FS Italiane. The move, supported by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport and Deputy Prime Minister, Matteo Salvini, aims to ensure business continuity in a particularly delicate phase, marked by large investments, numerous construction sites open on the railway network and the need to improve the regularity of the service after the inconveniences and delays experienced in recent months. His mandate, as well as that of the new board of directors, will have a duration of three years.
The new structure represents the first step in the reorganization of the top management of FS. The next game concerns the companies controlled, starting from Trenitalia e Italian Railway NetworkAfter the summer, discussions will begin regarding new appointments to the top positions of the group's two strategic entities. According to rumors circulating in recent weeks, the options currently being discussed concern exclusively internal managers, including the CEO of FS Logistix.
