Whirlpool convenes the unions for May 28 but only Fiom will be there

Despite the distance between the vertices of Whirlpool and the workers' unions are very broad, the American company has again convened the unions to discuss the plan corporate restructuring in Italy. The company, which took over Indesit in the summer of 2014, presented the plan to the government and trade unions in recent days, emphasizing the need to resort to over 2000 redundancies in Italy mainly due to the duplication of roles after the acquisition.

The meeting with the trade union parties and with Whirlpool and Indesit's national coordination has been convened by the top management of the American group for May 28 in Florence. But everyone, with the exception of Fiom who will be present, has already said they will not attend the meeting. For Fim, Uilm and Ugl the only place to discuss the Whirlpool dispute is the permanent table set up at the Ministry of Economic Development. In the meantime, the unions are preparing the eight-hour strike and the demonstration in Varese scheduled for 12 June.

Whirlpool explained in a note that "the company believes it is essential to continue discussions with its employees and their representatives at the level of general, national and territorial secretariats and Rsu, considering constant and constructive discussions as the only way to identify paths and shared solutions, without subordinating the dialogue solely to the convening of meetings by the Ministry of Economic Development".
